The Power of Alignment
Only days after his arrival, cold rain and high altitude created the perfect storm for a respiratory infection in a body already so severely compromised. Feverish on the inside, Asher faced new troubles on the outside as biting flies and feral magpies swarmed his open, oozing wounds. The aggressive birds perched on his ridged spine, repeatedly tearing open infected sores.
And Asher stood there, listless.
Desperate to protect him from the cold at night and from pests during the day, Tasha and Robert brought out the heavy winter blanket—but it would cause him to overheat in the sun. Determined, they rushed to purchase fly boots and a fly sheet—anything that might shield him. But still the flies gnawed at his underbelly, and the magpies persisted.
And Asher stood, listless.
How could a fighter like Asher survive such extreme conditions yet lack the strength to swish away flies or stomp at pestering birds? Tenderly, Tasha applied ointment like salve and whispered a quick, earnest prayer:
“Lord, protect this horse and give him a reason to keep fighting.
No more disease, no more discouragement, no more death of dreams.”
Late that afternoon, an equine chiropractor squeezed in one last appointment before leaving town for a conference. Something about Asher touched him deeply. That night, he couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t stop thinking about the inner strength buried inside this skeletal horse.
Early the next morning, he sent a message:
“Tasha, I need to stop by to see him before my flight. No charge. I just need to check on him again.”
Determined to offer whatever healing he could—through his hands and his prayers—he arrived expecting to find the same weak, silent horse from the day before.
Instead, he found Asher standing at the gate, nudging the chains with his muzzle—playful, alert, full of life.
“What happened here?” he asked, scanning the paddock. Something was different.
“Tasha… the birds are on the front lawn. They’re not attacking and eating him anymore!”
Then, with a spark in his eye, he added, “Do you know what the name Asher means? I looked it up last night and began praying over him.”
Tasha shared how his name is prophetic—calling things that are not yet seen as though they already are. “We look at who he is, not what he looks like right now,” she said.
Full of joy at the revelation, he explained that he had restructured his entire seminar to center around Asher’s story. Awestruck, he walked away shaking his head—energized to inspire others with what he had witnessed overnight.
It only takes a moment of realignment with true identity, and suddenly, the enemy is off your back.
