Meet The Herd

Asher first caught our attention through videos advertising his sale. Along the Texas border, semi‑loads of abandoned, sick, injured, and neglected horses are often dumped into auction yards. These animals are sold for many purposes—including, tragically, slaughter. When Asher was purchased, he was given a second chance—and we saw something extraordinary in him. Though he had suffered from severe starvation and muscle atrophy, his gentle eyes and willing spirit captivated us. Much like Joseph, he found favor in the eyes of his buyer, who then led him to a rich feeding of alfalfa—something usually reserved for his ranch horses. Inspired by the Hebrew, meaning “happy,” “blessed,” or “favored.” Asher embodies the hope a bright future—even, or especially, when one’s past has been difficult. We hold fast to the promise that what the enemy means for evil, God intends for good. Though his former owner discarded Asher after years of loyal service, we saw value in this beautiful American Paint. He fought through despair, persevered amid extreme adversity, and chose again to trust. In his journey, we see the echo of God’s grace: where there was brokenness, God is bringing beauty; where there was abandonment, God is offering belonging. Asher’s story of perseverance stirs hearts to believe again in God’s goodness, favor, and redemption.
